With an official press release on June 4, 2026, Atomos confirmed that the Sumo PRO-19 is now shipping worldwide. The new 19-inch monitor-recorder-switcher was unveiled at NAB back on April 17 — see Newsshooter’s coverage of the announcement — with availability originally slated for May. A one-month slip that, by recent industry standards, we are happy to forgive.

Not just a big monitor: a production hub

The Sumo PRO-19 is the evolution of the Sumo 19SE, and Atomos positions it squarely as the heart of the DIT cart, video assist and on-set switching. The display is a 19-inch 4K HDR touchscreen with DCI-P3 gamut; recording covers Apple ProRes, ProRes RAW, Avid DNx and H.265 up to 10-bit 4:2:2, with support for signals up to 8Kp30 over both SDI and HDMI.

The feature we think genuinely changes the day-to-day is the multicam side: the Sumo PRO-19 records up to 4 isolated camera feeds (ISO) plus the program — five streams in total — with quad-view monitoring on screen. In practice: live switching and, at the same time, every clean camera feed saved to separate files for post. Anyone who has ever had to rebuild a multicam edit from a program-only recording knows exactly what that is worth.

What it means for productions in Italy (and here in Abruzzo)

On the ground, the productions we see most often around here — branded content, regional commercials, live events, conferences, documentaries — live with a paradox: clients increasingly ask for multicam coverage and live output, but budgets rarely stretch to a traditional OB setup. A single unit that acts as switcher, ISO recorder, control monitor and network node (NDI HX3 and camera-to-cloud included) is exactly the kind of tool that simplifies the day: two Sony FX6 bodies over SDI, a third camera over HDMI, a Teradek Bolt 6 750 for the roaming camera, and your video village is done.

The dual phantom-powered XLR inputs also say a lot about how Atomos pictures this being used: events and talks where audio goes straight into the recorder, with no external mixer strictly required.

Rent or buy?

Official price: $2,899 / €2,899 excluding tax, through all authorized Atomos resellers. In Italy, once VAT is added, that means north of €3,500 — plus the large CFexpress cards this workflow demands, which are not cheap either. The math, in our view, is straightforward: if you run multicam jobs every week, buying makes sense; if multicam comes up a few times a month, this is a textbook case for renting per production — all the more so because this product category moves fast and resale values drop accordingly.

For everyday on-camera monitoring, meanwhile, an Atomos Ninja V remains the Swiss Army knife that covers most needs at a fraction of the cost.
